Phoenix: About five-and-a-half years ago I met Brad in college. Brad had been making music with Mike and they had known each other since junior high. Mike had met Joe, our deejay, in art school.
Joe: You know you’re styling when you’re rolling with Mr.Hahn.
Joe: Mike and Brad, they came up with the first group of songs in the bedroom on Mike’s little four track little drum machine, real ghetto equipment but it sounded really dope.
Phoenix: Rob, our drummer, had played with some of Brad’s bands back in high school and that kind of thing. So, when we graduated, I had been committed to a band I had been playing with since high school. So, I started touring with them full-time. I left the band for about right between a year and a year and a half.
Rob: When Chester came in, I remember playing songs and there was, like, certain part sin, like, the music we were playing that we kind of hard for most of the vocalist to hit and Chester just, like, nailed it.
Chester: I got the demo and I was really excited about it and I thought it was fresh. And I felt that I could really help, um, strengthem the music.
- Let’s see a wheelie, Chester.
Rob: There was somebody actually in the studio that was trying out, also. They just heard Chester sing, and they just left.
Chester: You know, people ask me „What do you so to, like, maintain your voice and stuff?”. And honestly, I probably do everything that you shouldn’t do.
– How many of you are pissed right now? See, in America, that means your mad, but here, it means your happy. Whoo! –
12 years of abuse – it’s built up a lot of scar tissue.
Joe: Platinum plaques and gold plaques and all of that, it means nothing. You know you’ve made it once someone makes a skateboard out of you. This is the official Linkin Park skateboard. How dope is that?
- I’m going to tell you. Linkin Park, you’re the… Because there’s nobody else that’s better than them a s far as goes a new band. ’Cause there’s nobody else like them. Nobody else goes and touched them. Nobody’s better than them. Nobody. Nobody else. Linkin Park get the…
Brad: Can we get security?
- All right. Pan right. Don’t pan right.
- Joe wants you to film him, Brad.
Joe: Cut. Give it to me. I’ll give it back to you.
- Joe wants you to film him, Brad.
- Do the hand thing. They like that.
Joe: Give it back.
Joe: We have , like, six creative minds in the band. Everyone’s, like, constantly, like, coming up with ideas, like…
Mike: This is the cover from the Hybrid Theory CD when we were called Hybrid Theory. I did this one, and Joe did another one that was, like, basically, the mirror image of this except scary.
Brad: We’re very collaborative on everything we do including our writing process.
- Okay, boys, you ready?
Mike: Chester and I usually, when we do lyrics like, we sit down and we talk about them first.
Chester: And work out a way for both of us to get out what we’re thinking and what we’re feeling.
Joe: What makes people relate to them is, like, how they come together and the way they come together is on that plane that everyone can relate to.
Brad: Whenever I’m doing something underneath Mike either I play something and we sample it or I’m playing a line that’s repearing. And that’s my cell phone and rule number one in interviews is you’re supposed to turn your cell phone off. Should I answer it, see who it is? Hello? – Brad – Hey.
Mike: We try and stick to kind of universal stories and universal emotions.
Mike: It sucks to be the guy that has to wear one of these, huh?
Joe: Can you tell us where we are again?
- Wesley Chapel, Florida.
Joe: Have you heard of a band called LP?
- Yes, I have.
Joe: What do you think of them?
- Yeah, I didn’t go, but one of my co-workers went and she said LP was awesome ’cause her and her son went all the way to the front when they were onstage.
Chester: Well, it’s difficult for me to think that our succes came overnight because, um, personally I’ve been doing this for 12 years. So, it’s… that’s one long night.
Joe: About five years’ worth of nights.
Shifty (Crazy Town): I think that, whenever a great band surfaces more power to them. I mean, they’re selling records. You know, I get a little jealous sometimes but it’s all good, you know?
Brad: If you’ve never seen anything about our band and all of a sudden, you’re hearing, you know, three songs on your local radios station, I’m sorry. Um, you might think that this is an extremely new phenomenon. And in one sense, yeah, it’s been very fast because everything we’ve done has been becoming more intense exponentially, in terms of our schedule in terms of all the things that we’re trying to do relating to the band. However, we started out as a band over five years ago.
- One of the best things about being out here is you can go cow tipping.
Brad: This is our standard Joe Hahn Interview Form and we’re going to have Cassidy sign this. You’re also saying, with this, that you think that we’re funny as opposed to annoying or obnoxions which a lot of people think.
Chester: The only goal that I really had with this group it was to make a record that I enjoyed listening to.
Mike: I want to make something that I could, you know, listen to at any point in my life and say that that was something I was proud of and I think we achieved that.

Chester: Az emberek mindig megkrdeznek „Hogy tartod karban a hangod?”. s becsletszavamra, valsznleg minden olyat teszek, amit k nem tennnek.
– Hnyan rgtak be kzletek?

Joe: Add vissza!
- Rendben, kszen lltok?
Mike: ltalban, mikor Chester s n szveget runk, elszr lelnk s beszlgetnk a leend szvegrl.
Joe: Elmondand mgegyszer hol vagyunk?
-- Wesley Chapel, Florida.
Joe: Hallottl mr az LP nev bandrl?
- Igen.
Joe: Mit gondolsz rluk?
Brad: Ez a mi szabvnyos Joe Hahn – Interj rlapunk, s ezt most alrjuk.
